It was hard for me to get through the whole article without getting choked up and I knew right away that I needed to do something. I couldn't walk away from this article without trying to help as much as I possibly could. Being a mom, as we all know, the love for our children is so stong; we would do anything for them. I could not imagine being in this mother's shoes where the only thing that her baby needs to live and thrive, Mother Nature will not allow her to provide...that breaks my heart.
Here's the link to the newspaper article (you may have to cut and paste it into your browser):
My mind started working right away about how I could help this family. I can pump and freeze bags which would help out, but one person doing this is not enough I thought. So, I wanted to reach out to the local breastfeeding community and see how much help I could find because we ALL can make a HUGE difference in this family's life!
I am reaching out to the local LLL as well as some of the other local businesses to try and get the word out about this. I am going to plan bi-weekly donation drop off points (hopefully, on the East and West Shore) and my mother will be doing the courier work for this effort as she is here weekly to watch my son.
If you are a breastfeeding mother reading this blog, then you are one of a small percent of people who has what is necessary to make a difference for this little precious being and her family. Please consider donating any amount of frozen breastmilk- we can make a difference together on this.
**Please bookmark this blog and check it regularly for dates/times/locations of breastmilk donation spots. Please also feel free to leave me a comment with your email address and I can send regular emails with the donation information in it also.
Trisha - My name is Monica. I think this is a wonderful way to help. I can't imagine how busy Julie is just trying to plan where and when to pick up milk. I also am a breasfeeding mother of a 9 month old and am willing to help out whatever way I can. I live up the mountain (Ebensburg area), but I work in Altoona. If it would help I can have a drop off site here and bring the milk to Altoona. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with this. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I wasn't responding well to my pump but will continue to try to donate.
ReplyDeleteHi C and M- your donations would be greatly appreciated! The first donation/dropoff spot has been scheduled and the details are above!!
ReplyDeleteI just had a friend of Julie's pick up over 200 or so ounces from me today! Please let Julie know that my family and I are praying for her and that I am on the search for more mother's to donate and have 2 more potential donators already.
